SoftShox Athletic: A blog where Performance meets Peer Review
At SoftShox, we believe knowledge is power — especially when it comes to protecting the brain. Whether you're an athlete, a parent, a coach, or someone who simply cares about safety, you've probably encountered a swirl of confusing or contradictory information about helmets, concussions, or brain health. We get it. Sorting fact from fiction isn’t easy.
That’s why we’re launching the SoftShox Athletic - a blog about the science of athletic safety.
Our mission with this blog is simple: to provide clear, honest, and science-backed insights into the world of head protection and brain injury. We’re not here to push fear or hype. We’re here to inform. Like our patented, wearable hydraulic technology, our content is grounded in rigorous testing, scientific evidence, and a deep respect for truth.
Too often, well-meaning athletes and parents are caught in the middle of debates about helmet ratings, concussion risk, or CTE, with no clear way to interpret the research. A 2023 Nature Communications study by Daneshvar et al., for example, found that the cumulative amount of head acceleration a football player experienced over their playing career (inclusive of both concussive and repeated, non-concussive impacts) was a strong predictor of injury (link). This evidence suggests that attenuation of all impacts, not just concussive impacts, is important to preserving long-term athlete brain health. That kind of nuance is often lost in the headlines.
Our blog will break down studies like these — and many others — into clear takeaways for everyday readers. You’ll learn not just what the science says, but why it matters, and how you can use that knowledge to make smarter safety decisions. And, we’ll provide references to relevant papers in case you want to go deeper.
At SoftShox, we’re not afraid to challenge the conventional wisdom if it is holding athlete safety back. We’ll celebrate progress and highlight the open questions still open for debate — all in the spirit of empowering our readers to make better-informed decisions. And, if you have an idea for a future blog post, please email us at inquiries@softshox.com.
So if you’re tired of hype and hungry for facts, you’ve come to the right place. The SoftShox Science Blog is here to make the science of head protection clearer, more useful, and more relevant than ever.
Welcome to the conversation.
